Sustainability adds up from several factors. Producing new clothes can never be categorised as being sustainable, but we can ensure that the clothes being made is produced with sustainable, eco-friendly materials, respecting and being responsible for the people involved in the prosess and ensuring a long life spam for the garments.

Not least, our job is to create products which you'll wish to use over and over again and that the garment can bare this job. Allowing you to downsize the wardrobe, owning and buying less. Comfort is a key factor to obtain this. Therefore we only use natural fabrics which breathes and feels good to the skin. The fit is loose and comfortable, and for example by constructing the pattern so the hems can be folded up and down, we extend the life spam with months and years.

THE MATERIAL

As per today, all our products are made from 100% European Linen. The dyes used to colour the fabrics are GOTS certified.

Linen, made from the Flax plant, is one of the most natural organic fabrics we have - the green fabric of the future. Still, flax is a rare product which represents less than 1% of all textile fibers consumed worldwide. Linen is at the top of the list over the strongest and most durable fabrics we have, 30% stronger then cotton. A great condition for a long lasting life, especially when it comes to childrenswear and their need to explore every corner around them.

Linen fabric is almost naturally organic. The flax is a strong plant best grown in northern Europe, especially Belgium and The Netherlands. It need little or no fertilisers, pesticides or added water to grow. It mainly grows on rainwater. It is completely biodegradable, recyclable and due to its natural absorbency it requires less dye then cotton. Flax can grow in poor quality soil, and naturally produces optimal soil quality, thereby increasing returns on the crops. One hectar of flax can retain 3.7 tonns of CO2.

"Flax cultivation has positive effects on eco-system diversity and offers a welcome environmental pause for soil quality, bio-diversity and landscapes" (Source : Advisory Commission Report to the European Parliament, Brussels, May 20, 2008).

Every part of the plant is used; what isn't used to produce linen can be used to make linseed oil, paper, cattle feed or even soap. Linen therefore scores high on the ecological chart.

It is anti-bacterial, anti- fungal, hypo allergenic and thermoregulating. Few knows that linen is an all-season fabric; linen will keep you cool when it's warm, and keeps you warm when it's cold.  The hollow fibres can absorb up to 20% moisture before feeling damp, and when it's cold, the hollow fibres will trap air which will help isolate and the linen fabric carefully saves the body’s heat.

On top of this, linen is naturally stain resistant, easy to wash, does not pile and is moth repellent.

THE PROCESS

All our products are developed in our own studio in Oslo. Our mindset is that the clothes should be timeless and be relevant season after season, year after year. We therefore make clothing without any prints or unnecessary details. It's a simple canvas which allows your child's personality to be in focus, rather then the garment itself. We believe in simple living. A focus to make it last is to create smart solution to adjust the garments to your growing child. Solutions and details which does not compromise comfort and movement. The child is the main actor.

The developing stage of the products is the key part of the process, as this is where the idea comes to life, adjustments can be made and altered over again. And not least, new ideas and ways of pattern cut can sparkle in the process. It's an inspiring fase where we crate the next, need to listen to experiences, open up and be forward thinking.

The whole development process is done in house by the designer, Henriette, herself. It's therefor easy for us to make alterations on the way, and in terms of sustainability it is also good, as we do not send samples back and forward with a supplier.

We develop styles which we believe is key in the wardrobe for our smallest. We make the essentials, the ones we know you'll use over and over again, the ones that can follow your child in different situations. We also design and create products to use even the smaller pieces of scrap fabric which comes from cutting out larger pattern pieces. Every part of the fabric has value.

THE PRODCUTION

As of today, all of our products are made in our own studio in Oslo.

The production of the garments are as important to us as creating products that can help us own less. Every single garment out there is made by people, and in MINI MOE we are very focussed on ensuring that the people behind our products are well taken care of, respected and have good working conditions. A place where it is good to come to.

We believe in quality over quantity. We want to be proud of what we make. Knowing that we are doing our best.
